The Scribe’s Kit

In Ezekiel 9 the prophet was shown detestable creatures being worshipped and women weeping over a Babylonian idol in Jerusalem. The final straw was when 25 men turned their backs to the Tabernacle while their faces bowed down to the east, to worship the gods of the East. Then Ezekiel had a vision of a massive slaughter of his people, as Adonai said He would deal in wrath without pity on the people.

As I read the following verses, I heard Him say that also for today, a man is being sent to you who groan and sigh over all the abominations which are being committed in Jerusalem. He is clothed in linen and at his waist, he carries the scribe’s kit. This man has instructions to go through the midst of Jerusalem in order to make a mark on the foreheads of those who groan and sigh over all the evil that’s taking place in her.

And to those who don’t groan and sigh over Jerusalem, the man with the scribe’s kit is going through the city to destroy them without pity, starting at the sanctuary.

The Ezekiel 10 vision that follows the massive slaughter of those who aren’t marked with a ת is stunning. The magnificent glory of יהוה and the cherubim and the whirling wheels that are covered with eyes are supernaturally revealed. And the promise of restoration is given as יהוה declares, “I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you from the countries among which you have been scattered, and I will give you the Land of Israel.”

When we come home, we are called to remove all detestable abominations from the Land. And for this, יהוה will give us one heart, and put a new spirit in us. And He will remove the heart of stone from our flesh and give us a heart of flesh to follow His Torah.

So look for the man with the scribe’s kit. I believe he has already been sent out into our midst today and my prayer is that he will find so many to mark with the ת that he will need continual heavenly refills of ink in his scribe’s kit!

By the way it’s not a coincidence that the modern Hebrew for mark is ת – Tav. But in ancient Hebrew the letter ת was in the shape of a cross…
