A Word on Nabal & Avigail

On Nov 16 a missile blast in Haifa blew out all the windows in a building, except for the apartment of a Messianic Jew. At once I sensed that יהוה would make a distinction between Avigail and Nabal by dealing with the spirit of Nabal thru a potentially larger strike on Haifa. At once I delved into 1 Samuel 25:



Nabal: harsh & evil in his dealings, accountable to no one, a Calebite כלבי – a dog. 



Avigail: an intelligent, discerning intercessor, beautiful wife of Nabal



David: a famous hero in Israel, soon to be king



MAON – מָעוֹן 


* Nabal came from Maon but his business was on Carmel
.
* David fled from Saul & was saved in Maon at the “cliff of divisions”


* In Judges 10, Maon is included with the Amalekites as an oppressor.



When David requested help after blessing Nabal’s men, Nabal rebuked David as an unknown rebel who broke away from his master, thus aligning with Saul to curse David. But a servant told Avigail that David acted with integrity as he protected Nabal’s men. Yet Nabal scorned עִיט – “scorned, shrieked at, greedily rush” on David.



The servant warned, “Consider what you should do, for evil is plotted against our master and home; he is so worthless בְּלִיַּעַל (evil, ruin) that no one can speak to him.”



Avigail didn’t tell Nabal but quickly rode her donkey to David with a gift and a humble message that delivered David from sin. She defined Nabal by name, alluded to Goliath as she proclaimed, “The lives of your enemies He will sling out as from the hollow of a sling” and she prophesied over David’s coming reign.



When Avigail returned home and saw Nabal in a gluttonous, drunken state, she told him about David the next day. His heart died & became stone; 10 days later יהוה struck Nabal and he died. 



And I heard this – “Nabal’s salt became tasteless, no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot, while Avigail will be comforted in her mourning, inherit the Land in her humility, see יהוה in her purity and become a peacemaker.”
