A Poem – A Root
While walking on the ground
I saw a seed being sown
Sprouting leaves of brown
Wilted and dry as a bone
So I looked beneath the soil
To hopefully find the source
And saw a root so thick
Its middle the size of a horse
It grew so quickly and deep
I couldn’t see its end
Expanding wide and steep
Requiring more roots to send
Into the hearts of those who fight
Offense with self-defense
Oh destroy that root with forgiveness
And prayer – now that makes sense
I allow no root of bitterness
To deeply steal my heart
But I can’t do it alone
Please let Your Spirit impart:
The prayers that break the chains
The mercy that we seek
Your Kingdom gently rains
The wisdom to be meek
